“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” -John 3:16
God is a Spirit and is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. He made us for His Glory.
We all have fallen short of the glory of God however and His Word tells us that ‘no one is good, no, not one.’ The world will tell you the opposite.
We all have broken God’s law, the Ten Commandments. Breaking his law is sin and we all have done this, over and over and over. Breaking one of his laws, only one time, earns us an eternity in Hell separated from Him. We don’t love Him, we take His name in vain, we are all liars, thieves, haters, murderers, adulterers and more. WE ARE GUILTY and God is JUST. We must repent.
His Word tells us ‘the wages of sin is death.’ We all will die and we all deserve God’s wrath and separation from Him for all eternity. It doesn’t matter how sweet we are or what good things we have done. Our works are filthy to Him and we can not earn our salvation!
In God’s mercy and by His grace, He gives His people repentance, belief & faith. The gospel literally means good news. Jesus, God’s only begotten Son, came to Earth and became man like one of us, yet remained fully God as well (this is called the hypostatic union.) God imputed Jesus Christ’s righteousness to all who put their faith in Him. He imputes our sin to Christ on the cross! Jesus paid the debt that we could never pay. He took on the wrath of God that we deserve.
“But He was pierced for our offenses,
He was crushed for our wrongdoings;
The punishment for our well-being was laid upon Him,
And by His wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
We can not earn or contribute to our salvation. This is extremely important to remember. Being a ‘good person’ can not earn salvation.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.
