That Seventies Era

Share what you know about the year when you were born.

When I was born, things were….a lot different. Walking into our home was right out of a 1970’s color palette. We’re talking green textured carpet, metallic gold wallpaper accents, velvet green curtains, golden couches & of course wood paneling with orange curtains…you get it!

I was born 6 weeks or so premature. My mother is a Type 1 diabetic and there were some complications. The doctors considered aborting me. I’m thankful she did not!

I’m told I had a rough start – I didn’t speak when kids normally spoke. It wasn’t until around age three that I spoke. My mother said I didn’t respond to my name when they called me. It turns out I was autistic.

The 70’s were definitely a different time. Our toys were not digital and I remember our very first microwave – I recall cooking an egg in it!

Back in those days kids were the actual TV remote controls we use so much today and take for granted. 😆….I do remember when we got our first one- it looked more like a wide, large calculator.

Oh, and tape recorders & stereos, telephones with long cords – there were no personal cell phones back then of course.

Much was happening in the world, the Vietnam War was coming to an end, Watergate & much more…

What was it like the year you were born? What do you remember? No matter what, God made you in His image for His glory!

For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

~Psalm 139:13-15
