Are You Easily Offended?

What could you do less of?

I don’t consider myself the type of person who gets extremely easily offended….BUT…sometimes, let’s face it, I’m human and fall into the very tempting trap to “take offense too quickly.”

Do you ever fall into this trap?

If we could just have one moment of clarity before we react, we could more easily choose NOT to be offended!

That’s the hard part though – having those moments of clarity!

You’ve heard it before:

*THINK BEFORE YOU ACT!*

It’s very easily said but more complex to actually put into practice. It really is a decision to not be easily offended. It’s so worth it too! Why put yourself through possible pangs of unnecessary bitterness, anger, frustration and arguments?

Ask yourself (and I need to ask myself) “Is it worth it?” “Is my reaction justified?”

“…my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;”

~James 1:19

If we think about how we have offended God with all of our sins against Him…every…single…one. If we think about the sins against Him we aren’t even cognizant of…and lastly, take a second to think about how you have offended other people….this just might humble us in the moments we are so easily tempted to over react & take offense.

“For our transgressions are multiplied before you,
  and our sins testify against us;
for our transgressions are with us,
    and we know our iniquities

~Isaiah 59:12

Bottom line is, if we do fall into offense easily – be quick to forgive! Or, quick to admit your offense was not justified.

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”

~Colossians 3:12-13

We can’t do these things by ourselves, in our flesh, but Christians DO have the Holy Spirit! May we always go to God in prayer and ask Him for help!
