I think of persecuted Christians as I write this. Many have one Bible and it must be hid & kept a secret. Some have no Bible at all, just torn pages from it that they hide and must be kept a secret. And some have no pages at all, nothing. They have no liberty to read out loud for fear someone will hear them. They can not be seen reading quietly, because they could be thrown in prison, attacked or worse. To learn more about persecuted Christians in some of the world’s most dangerous nations, please read the very informative & educational ‘The Voice of The Martyrs’ here. Unlike these Christians, we do not face this persecution here in the United States. We are very blessed that we can have as many Bibles as we’d like and can read them wherever we’d like. Let us not take the freedom we do have for granted!!
With that being said, I wanted to compile a list of some of my favorite Bibles and study tools that we are blessed to have access to and that have helped my family in our Christian journey. I hope these will help you too!

**BIBLES**
“REFORMATION HERITAGE STUDY BIBLE” –
I have mentioned this before on the blog and on social media, it’s that good. My favorite things about this Bible are the detailed study notes and the personal & family worship notes located at the end of every chapter! These notes truly help the reader (whether young or old) to grasp a better understanding of The Word of God. Additionally, this Bible contains numerous helpful teaching articles, Church History, Catechisms and more! You can learn more here.
“THE EVIDENCE STUDY BIBLE” –
This Bible is one that I don’t read much anymore, but I have held onto it as old & tattered as it is. The commentary by Ray Comfort is filled with articles on false religions with a focus on helping Christians learn how to defend their faith; you can learn more about it here. If you don’t know who Ray Comfort is you can learn more about him from Living Waters here and watch his evangelism at ‘Ray Comfort: Just Witnessing’ here.
“KJV NOTE TAKER’S BIBLE” –
This next Bible is a note taking style Bible that has extra space (a nice sized vertical margin on each page) to write down your own notes, highlights, quotes from theologians, etc. There are several different kinds of this type of Bible out there for sale but I am linking the one I ended up buying here.
**STUDY AIDES**
“DIGITAL REFORMATION HERITAGE STUDY NOTES” –
This study aide is from the same makers of the Reformation Heritage Study Bible. They took all of the study notes, personal & family worship notes and offer these notes in digital form. The digital format is useful to me despite having their physical Bible because my family has easy access to their study notes when using other Bibles, etc. There are various ways to go about buying the digital format, but I purchased it inexpensively through the ‘Holy Bible App by Olive Tree’ here, and was able to add to all of our devices for our homeschool at no additional charge.
“RELIGHT APP” –
This very detailed website and free app contains not just the Scriptures, but also contains many aides such as: Greek New Testament, Hebrew Old Testament, Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin, Westminster Directory For Public Worship, Matthew Henry Commentary, the three forms of Unity, Westminster Shorter & Larger Catechism, The Prayer of the Lord by RC Sproul, The 1689 London Baptist Confession and more! Learn more here.
“1650 SPLIT LEAF PSALTER APP” –
God commands us to sing God’s praises using His Psalms from the Bible. The songs are put into ‘common meter’, which makes them easier to sing. The app has tune suggestions and recordings of a congregation singing to help you. You can download this free app here.
“SERMONAUDIO.COM” –
This comprehensive website and free app contains many sermons from thousands of theologically sound pastors. It also contains a ‘church finder’ section. You can download it here.
“LIGONIER MINISTRIES” –
Founded by Dr. R.C. Sproul, Ligonier contains a large teaching series, Tabletalk magazine and more. Check it out here.
“SPURGEON MORNING & EVENING” –
This devotional book written by Charles Spurgeon is intended to be read morning and evening each day. It has put into app form and can be found for free here.
“THE M’CHEYNE PLAN”-
Robert Murray M’Cheyne’s famous Bible reading plan is in app form & can be downloaded for free here. There is also a free printable of his plan here.
“2024 BIBLE READING & FAMILY WORSHIP PLAN”-
Rev. Adam Brink uses M’Cheyne’s Bible reading plan yet enhances it by incorporating daily Psalm singing and daily Westminster Shorter Catechism questions & answers. This is a free printable and it can be found here.
“The Voice of The Martyrs”-
In addition to their website explained above, please look into their brand new free app which gives access to so many things plus daily reminders to pray for different groups of persecuted Christians. Check it out here.
